LIVING STRUCTURES

We love working with plants and people, and get to do both every day. Helping folks realize their own environment, bringing shape to their dreams.

Gardening is an interesting art, and gardeners play in so many realms: color, texture, scent - all the senses.

What we do brings life to the outdoors, in a very real way.

Gardens should support all kinds of healthy life. Pollinators and butterflies, hummingbirds and songbirds thrive where there is diverse life.

Garden planning means we can take into account the natural successions that result in making systems stronger, more interwoven, healthier.

We can plant Cascara Sagrada groves that feed kinglets, bushtits and tanagers, robins and grosbeaks, swallowtails and grey hairstreak butterflies; underplant with wildflowers, edge the sunny side with fragrant plants. In some years, when there’s enough shade, plant Trillium, Fawn Lilies, and ferns.

We play with time: time through the day, through seasons and years.

An old Magnolia in March, fat buds backlit in the evening light, framed with black clouds and Cedar.

In July, a space is filled with annuals in summer sun where in a few years, sturdy golden Choisya ternata 'Sundance' will have claimed the space.

We revel in diversity. Each client is unique, each garden, each plant. What they make when we come together will never be the same again. Anywhere. That is just glorious.

Light and soil, rain and heat - now beside a rock wall, now at the low end of the garden, in the wet shade.

The variables are nearly endless. The canvas is vast.

We love it.
